Malawi

SIFE NTU plans to work with Seeds of Opportunity and the Bunda College of Agriculture to train cotton growers so that their cotton becomes of international Fair-trade standard. The first stage in this will involve a team from SIFE NTU going over to Malawi in late February and training the Enterprise Society, which we have helped set up, in how to run community projects and the basic team skills involved. During this trip we will also be scouting for venues for the main part of the project, which will be a return trip in June to run a conference to promote the benefits of Fair-trade and Organic agriculture. In the future years of the project the cotton growers will then be organized to form a co-operative which will be accredited to Fair-trade. SIFE NTU will then look for companies that manufacture clothes to get them to buy their cotton from the Co-operative in Malawi.
